The Riveredge Master Naturalist Series
Thursday, July 1, 9am to 3pm – Nutrient Cycles & Energy Flows
(First Thursday of each month for 12 months)
Becoming a naturalist is a journey - an avocation that calls for the exercise of artistic creativity and scientific discipline. For over 40-years Riveredge has been a leader in the production of naturalists - people finding new and fun ways to help others realize the depth of their interrelationship with the natural world.

Open to everyone, the Master Naturalist Series will provide foundational training in ecology, natural history, and the living systems of Riveredge.   The Master Naturalist Series will offer both new and experienced naturalists opportunities to share and grow in their understanding of the world and its natural systems. Participants will work together to explore ecological systems, the rules they follow and the roles that we play within them. Through Riveredge’s trademark, hands-on approach, you’ll explore its landscape while gaining experience in teaching methods, program design, field study techniques and experimental methods. Everything truly is connected to everything else – together we’ll explore those connections.

The Riveredge Master Naturalist Series is lead by Marc White, Riveredge’s Director of Research, Stewardship and Adult Education. Becoming a naturalist is a lifelong journey that begins with a single step. Call 800-287-8098 to register for the Series today! Program details and a class schedule are available on line at www.riveredge.us.
There is a $25 fee/session and participants can sign up for individual sessions or for the entire series.

Jungle Gold with Featured Performer Roger Kuhns
Adult Programs
Thursday, July 22, 7 - 8:30pm
What could change a person’s life in the rainforests of South America? As an internationally known geologist working for a multinational company, Dr. Roger Kuhns was sent into the jungle help build a gold mine.  But what he found was much more valuable than any precious metal. Kuhns takes you on this real adventure where life-altering lessons were learned in the remote corners of French Guyana. After weeks and months in the jungle Kuhns learned about the complex interplay between the cultures thrown together in this environmentally precious landscape. The stakeholders in this adventure included the indigenous people, an escaped African slave tribe, the French who sought a simpler life there, and the corporate engine that only wanted the gold.

Dr. Roger Kuhns has graciously agreed to perform his Jungle Gold monologue for us the same week he is teaching a week long workshop on Ecological Geology at the UWM Field Station. Not only is Roger a renowned geologist, but he’s also an accomplished story teller.  He was the keynote speaker at the Natural Landscape conference in February and featured performer at a theatre in Door County last summer. For more information about Roger and his monologues see www.rogerkuhnsmonologures.com.
Fee: $6  Registration Required
