 RIVEREDGE'S DRAGON AND DAMSELFLY COUNT

Hello Everyone,

Thanks again for participating Riveredge’s 2012 Dragon & Damselfly Count on Saturday, July 21, 2012.  The results of the count are included here .  The morning started off slow due to the overcast skies but conditions improved when the sun came out.  A special thank you to Gerry Clausen who led the team Saturday then finished the count on his own on Sunday.  Thanks also to Dave Kinnamon who counted here in the morning then surveyed on his own property in the afternoon.

The most exciting dragonfly we saw was a Red Saddlebag seen at Heron Pond along with a couple of Black Saddlebags.   This is a new species for Riveredge.  Another new species, the Skimming Bluet, was seen the weekend before by the Wisconsin Dragonfly Society during their field trip here.  Kate Redmond saw a third new species, Swamp Darner, here on June 21st.  The drought seems to be causing some species of Odonata to extend their ranges this summer.

Let me know if you have any questions about this year's count summary.

Hope you can join us again next year!

Sincerely,
