Fly Tying for Beginners
Designed for those who have never tied a fly, but have been intrigued by the process and the knowledge obtained about the critters you, as a tyer and fisher, will be simulating. You (the
student) will have to bring your own tools and thread, but we will teach you how to use them. We supply the materials.
Begin with the most simple fly ever tied, and progress from there. Each fly will be a lesson in either new material or new methods of tying - in some cases, both. All patterns are proven fish catchers.
The class consists of three, three hour sessions: Sunday, February 21, 12:30 to 3:30 pm; Tuesday, February 23, 6-9pm; and Sunday, February 28, 12:30-3:30 pm. The cost to Riveredge members is $45, Non-Members $55. Pre-registration is required. Call 262-375-2715. Class is limited to six individuals so we can give you the best, nearly personal, instruction we can.
March 14, 16 and 21
Fly Tying, The Next Step
If you have taken the beginners class and liked it, you will want to take this one. (Not everyone has found that they like or are adaptable to tying flies.) Or, if you missed this class last year, or have been tying a while but still have questions, you too will want to take this class.
You will tie poppers, nymphs, and dry flies. You will learn different ways to weight flies so you do not have to use the dreaded split shot on your leader. And, as he has done in the past, a special friend comes by on the last class to show you how to tie the "little flies -20/24's." This alone is worth the price of admission.
Again, there are three sessions, for a total of nine hours of class time. Again we supply the material, you bring your tools.

Knothing But Knots
The weakest link between you and the fish on the end of your tippet are the knots you tie. We begin with attaching the backing to the arbor, then attach the line to the backing.
Discover two methods of attaching the leader to the line, and knots used to replace your tippet.
There are many knots used to attach your fly to the tippet. Learn when to use which.
Jerry's method of teaching begins with oversized material so you understand how the knot is made, then tie with the real stuff. All material is supplied. Class size limited to six. Pre-registration required. Call 262-375-2715. Class time: Sunday, April 25, 12:30 - 3:30 pm. Cost: $25 for members, $30 for non-members.
