Birdathon * Update, please read
May 16, 2020 @ 6:00 am - 4:00 pm
Birdathon Details, per Carl Schwartz, below. Please see this registration sheet to participate.
We still plan to conduct the birdathon half of this event on Saturday May 16, albeit in a somewhat modified format, with social distancing enforced by common sense and smaller teams (or individuals) spreading out over large areas of the grounds at Riveredge.
Please RSVP Carl Schwartz to make a Plan B in the event of weather that day. Carl intends to arrive at 4 a.m. on May 9 in the west parking lot and listen and play for owls before heading to the main building by 4:30 to listen for the dawn chorus and wander around the building and nearby trails until 6 a.m., should anybody wish to socially-distance themselves from him in this pursuit. As always, company would be most welcome. Feel free to bring your masks and hand sanitizer.
By 6:15 we hope a few more folks will gather in the main lot and can shout at each other from a distance to coordinate which areas we want to cover. Maybe if we have enough folks show up and employ small teams we can cover more of the grounds than usual.
There won’t be any banding this year (impossible to do so and maintain social distance). Bring your own snacks and water (Riveredge will not have the building open; bring your own water bottles). Riveredge trails are open. There’s a port-a-toilet in the West parking lot and the outhouses are open on the East end near the yurts (down the gravel road from that parking lot).
Carl Schwartz plans to be on the back deck at noon to collect lists orally, otherwise you can email him your list. Please email Carl if you have any questions, and, again, thanks for your support either in the field or financially.
Join us at 6:15am in the main parking lot to be part of several teams that will attempt to cover all 379 acres to find every species we can. Or you can show up on your own for this all-day birding and banding event on Riveredge Nature Center property. If you want to help with the count, please contact Carl Schwartz [email protected].
Donations welcomed.
