Bird Club: How Record Water Levels Impact Great Lakes Coastal Wetland Birds and Amphibians

March 2, 2021 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

Milwaukee River with snow around it on a sunny day

Erin Giese, senior research specialist at UW-Green Bay and president of the Northeastern Wisconsin Audubon has studied how Great Lakes water levels can fluctuate by a few inches across days or weeks or by many feet across years or even decades. The Great Lakes experienced record low water levels in 2013, followed by a huge upswing in 2016, reaching record highs through 2020. While water levels impact homes and shorelines, they also affect which coastal wetland birds, frogs and toads inhabit coastal wetlands. Tune in to learn more about the impacts on these adaptive animals.
