DESCRIPTION:April 12 @ 12:00 pm – 4:00 pm\n              \n                  Agroforestry: Apple Tree Grafting with Dan Bussey \n              \n              Apple Historian Dan Bussey is widely known for his expertise as the author of The Illustrated History of Apples In the US and Canada and his previous work as Orchard Manager for Seed Savers Exchange. Dan has been dedicated to the preservation and management of heirloom species\, and has brought many of them back from the brink of extinction. Although his work chronicles 16\,350 apple varietal listings\, he will be working with us to share the diversity of apples at the Riveredge Farm. Participants will learn how to graft 3 species of apples\, currently growing at our permaculture Farm\, onto M-2 semi-dwarf root stock. SUMMARY:OWBC: Woodcock Wander through the Mequon Nature Preserve
DESCRIPTION:April 16 @ 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm\n              \n                  Ozaukee Washington Bird Coalition: Woodcock Wander through the Mequon Nature Preserve \n              \n              Stroll with bird expert Dan Panetti\, owner of Wild Birds Ultd in Mequn\, in search of the American Woodcock — a secretive species most easily found when engaged in wild aerial courtship displays. Although woodcock technically are a “shorebird\,’ they typically are found in woodlands\, forest openings\, and ephemeral ponds. The diverse habitats of the Mequon Nature Preserve make this an ideal location for observing them. The outing will start at dusk with an informational talk followed by a hike in and around the preserve listening for the “peent” call of the male as he corkscrews from on high to the ground in his distinctive courtship display. We encourage you to participate in this communal effort to keep our local waterways free of trash and debris. Join the Milwaukee Riverkeeper® Spring Cleanup for a morning of cleaning up our beloved Milwaukee river. All pre-registrants will receive a FREE t-shirt! \nWhile Milwaukee Riverkeeper® hosts cleanup sites throughout Southeastern Wisconsin\, Riveredge will be hosting three of them in Ozaukee County!  \nAll ages welcome!
