SUMMARY:Community Conservation: Buckthorn Removal
DESCRIPTION:March 6 @ 12:00 pm – 3:00 pm\n \n Community Conservation: Buckthorn Removal \n \n Join Riveredge’s conservation staff as we remove invasive buckthorn at Mayhew Woods. Buckthorn removal is one of the most important steps for restoring the land around us. Because of the expansive reach this plant has\, the forest floor under the buckthorn is almost entirely bare. Removing buckthorn in the winter allows our team to spend less time managing the plant in the spring and summer\, instead working to reintroduce native species in the newly cleared area! \nIf you’re looking for an opportunity to get outside and participate in local conservation efforts\, you’ve come to the right place! Please dress for the elements and prepare to hike off trail. Tools and PPE provided. \nVolunteers must be at least 18 years old to participate. (students ages 16+ also welcome with supervising teacher -please call us to inquire)\nPre-registration is required by March 6 at 11:59 pm as space is limited. Please reach out to Hannah hsedgwick@riveredge.us with any questions. \nRegister Here \n  \n\n \n \n \n \n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n \n \n\n \n \n \n Registration\n Ages 16+ | Free \n Register Here\n \n\n \n \n \n Become a Member\n Take advantage of member benefits and discounts! \n Join Now\n \n\n \n \n \n More Events\n Explore other upcoming events! \n Event Calendar

SUMMARY:Science Thursday: The Cedarburg Bog - State Natural Area #2
DESCRIPTION:March 12 @ 1:00 pm – 2:00 pm\n \n Science Thursday: The Cedarburg Bog – State Natural Area #2 \n at Riveredge and on Zoom \n \n The Cedarburg Bog was named state natural area #2 in Wisconsin by conservationist Aldo Leopold in 1952 to protect its unique natural landscapes. Dr. Jim Reinartz\, president of the Friends of the Cedarburg Bog and former UWM Field Station director will share with you why this designation reflects the Bog’s outstanding ecological importance. It’s the state’s largest and one of the rarest patterned “string bog” which are typically found much further north. It contains southern boreal forest species and provides vital habitat for diverse wildlife. It is home to many plant and animal species that are at or near the southern extent of their range in Wisconsin\, including specific birds\, orchids\, and insects. \nThis program is offered in-person at Riveredge and virtually on Zoom.\nScience Thursday Lectures are always free! | Designed for ages 18+\nPre-registration is not required\, but highly recommended for the In-Person option. SUMMARY:Community Conservation: Buckthorn Removal
DESCRIPTION:March 13 @ 9:00 am – 12:00 pm\n \n Community Conservation: Buckthorn Removal \n \n Join Riveredge’s conservation staff as we remove invasive buckthorn at Mayhew Woods. (students ages 16+ also welcome with supervising teacher -please call us to inquire)\nPre-registration is required by March 12 at 11:59 pm as space is limited. Please reach out to Hannah hsedgwick@riveredge.us with any questions. \nRegister Here \n\n \n \n \n \n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n \n \n\n \n \n \n Registration\n Ages 16+ | Free \n Register Here\n \n\n \n \n \n Become a Member\n Take advantage of member benefits and discounts! \n Join Now\n \n\n \n \n \n More Events\n Explore other upcoming events! \n Event Calendar
