Family Nature Club is a free offering to our community designed for kids and their families. We facilitate outdoor, environmental-education based experiences for families to enjoy together.
This Family Nature Club will meet at Lake Park Pavillion
Spanning expansive, meadow-like areas, Lake Park features winding wooded paths that lead visitors through lush landscapes, offering surprising vistas and peaceful spots to relax. The park is home to the North Point Lighthouse, a historic landmark that provides a glimpse into the city’s maritime past.
All ages are welcome! Children must be accompanied by an adult 18+.
This program is free to attend, but donations are greatly appreciated!

Family Nature Club is a free offering to our community designed for kids and their families. We facilitate outdoor, environmental-education based experiences for families to enjoy together.
This Family Nature Club will meet at Birchwood Hills Nature Preserve in Port Washington (address below). If construction impedes access to the Preserve’s parking lot, please park on Norport Dr. near Antoine Park and walk a short ways to Birchwood Hills Preserve trails.
Birchwood Hills Nature Preserve is a 23 acre perserve with walking trails though wetlands and woodlands, uplands, ponds and streams.
All ages are welcome! Children must be accompanied by an adult 18+.

Discover Wisconsin Ducks!
Part 2: Field Day
Discover Wisconsin’s duck species and learn when, where, and how to identify them in the field with expert birder Jeff Bahls, President of the Horicon Marsh Bird Club and 2018 recipient of the Wisconsin Society of Ornithology’s Bronze Passenger Pigeon Award. This two-part workshop includes an introductory lecture at Riveredge Nature Center followed by a guided field experience at Horicon Marsh Wildlife Area, Wisconsin’s largest cattail marsh. Participants will explore duck “hot spots” and practice real-time identification techniques in the field.
4/15 5:30-6:30pm – Lecture at Riveredge: Held on-site at Riveredge Nature Center, this session will introduce Wisconsin duck species, behavior, and identification basics.
4/18 8:00-11:00am – Field Day at Horicon Marsh: The field portion will be held entirely outdoors and will involve walking and standing on grassy or gravel trails. Please dress for the weather, wear layers, and choose appropriate walking or hiking shoes.
Please note: Transportation to Horicon Marsh not provided.

Spring Egg Hunt
Join us for a special egg hunt event, Riveredge style! Families are invited to hike ~1 mile trail while children encounter stations to gather eggs from. Our eggs are filled with candy-free, nature inspired objects- some include tickets, which can be redeemed for a prize of your child’s choice. After your hike, enjoy the springtime air and play in the natural play area!
This event is designed for ages 1 to 10 years.
Members*: $5 | Non-members: $10
2 time spots are available: 10:00 am – 11:00 am and 11:15 am – 12:15 pm
Pre-registration is not required, but highly recommended as this event may fill up. Registration is required for children only, not parents or guardians. The route is stroller friendly.

Pancake Breakfast
We invite you to join us as we close out the maple sugarin’ season the best way we know how- with all you can eat pancakes held outside right in the middle of the Sugarbush. Menu includes all you can eat pancakes (not gluten free) along with pure maple syrup and an optional pickle, a serving of ham, coffee, and juice. See below for more information about parking, weather, drinks, and more.
Non-Member: $18 | Members: $15 | 3 & under: Free
Children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
3 times are available – 9:00-10:15am, 10:30-11:45am, 12:00-1:15pm.
Early pre-registration is highly recommended as this event is expected to fill fast with only 1 day this year. If any space is left, walk-in spots may be available.

Important Details for Attendees
• Park at the Visitor’s Center for your scheduled seating time (If someone in your group has mobility issues, you’re welcome to drop them off at the Sugarbush House and then park at the Visitor’s Center).
• Check in takes place at the Visitor’s Center.
• Hike to Sugarbush House.
• The program takes place outdoors, so dress for the weather. We pancake rain or shine. Or snow. Or frogs. You get the drift.
• Event concludes an hour after beginning so that we can clean for the next seating.
• We’ll be cooking all-you-can-eat pancakes for additional servings.
• Mimosas and beer are available for purchase, please bring cash if this is of interest.
• Maple sugarin’ season items for sale in the Nature Store in the Visitor’s Center, which will be open.
• The trails may be muddy…we recommend that you wear hiking or mud boots.

Maple Syrup Supper
We can’t think of a better group to celebrate the start of the maple sugarin’ season with than our awesome members! Members (and any guests they’d like to bring with them!) are invited to eat, drink, and be merry while learning more about the sugarin’ season. Each participant (ages 4+) will receive a free drink ticket for this special supper! Please indicate any dietary restrictions or allergies when you register. If bringing guests, please register them under your own account so we can make sure everyone is coming at the invite of our members.
