Join Samantha\, of SOYO Studios\, and infuse movement and mindfulness. We will begin with a 45 minute beginner-to-intermediate flow\, followed by 45 minutes of outdoor mindfulness. Removing these plants is one of the most important steps for restoring the land around us. Because of the expansive reach of these plants\, much of the forest floor is covered in invasives instead of native plants. \nIf you’re looking for an opportunity to get outside and participate in local conservation efforts\, you’ve come to the right place! Encounter the giants of the forest and explore trees from a new perspective as you climb into the canopy under the guidance of trained facilitators. Ascend to the top\, swing from a branch\, or try a “bat hang” – Adventure awaits! \n\n\n\nThe Tree Climbing Festival Registration includes 20 minutes of climb time (please choose a time slot when registering)\, a scavenger hunt along the trails\, a naturalist-led hands-on nature investigation\, and access to picnic areas for lunch (please pack a lunch and be mindful of single use plastic waste). \n\n\n\nPricing*: $25 per participant – Includes 20 minutes of tree climbing  \n\n\n\nOpen to individuals as well as groups as long as all climbers are 7+ years old. Limit of 10 participants per 20 minute climbing time slot. \n\n\n\nYouth must be accompanied by an adult chaperone. \n\n\n\nPre-registration is HIGHLY recommended by May 29 at 11:59 pm. DESCRIPTION:May 6 @ 8:00 am – 4:00 pm\n              \n                  SAWW Level 1 Chainsaw Training \n              \n              Join SAWW (Safety and Woods Worker) trainer Luke Saunders (Forester with Blue Heron Stewardship LLC) for a hands-on training in chainsaw use\, maintenance\, and technique. Spend time both outside and in the classroom\, practicing how to operate chainsaws safely\, comfortably\, and productively. \nThis class is part one of a four level series through the Safety and Woods Working training program (SAWW). Topics include: personal protective equipment (PPE); body mechanics; chainsaw safety features; the chain and the cutter tooth; reactive forces; planning and executing tree felling\, limbing\, and bucking; introductory bore cutting and open-face felling. Hands-on training gives participants the opportunity to fell at least one tree. Participants are encouraged to bring your own equipment and lunch. Encounter the giants of the forest and explore trees from a new perspective as you climb into the canopy under the guidance of trained facilitators. Ascend to the top\, swing from a branch\, or try a “bat hang” – Adventure awaits! \n\n\n\nThe Tree Climbing Festival Registration includes 20 minutes of climb time (please choose a time slot when registering)\, a scavenger hunt along the trails\, a naturalist-led hands-on nature investigation\, and access to picnic areas for lunch (please pack a lunch and be mindful of single use plastic waste). \n\n\n\nPricing*: $25 per participant – Includes 20 minutes of tree climbing  \n\n\n\nOpen to individuals as well as groups as long as all climbers are 7+ years old. Limit of 10 participants per 20 minute climbing time slot. \n\n\n\nYouth must be accompanied by an adult chaperone. \n\n\n\nPre-registration is HIGHLY recommended by May 1 at 11:59 pm. DESCRIPTION:April 16 @ 7:00 pm – 8:30 pm\n              \n                  Bumble Bee Queens\, Nests\, and Spring Wildflowers \n              \n              Dr. Jeff Karron’s talk features striking slow-motion videography to highlight the interdependence of bumble bee queens and spring-flowering perennial plants. Early-blooming native perennials provide the essential food resources queens need to survive\, establish nests\, and successfully raise their first brood. In turn\, many spring flowering plants depend heavily on bumble bees for effective pollination and seed production. All video and photography featured in this presentation were filmed in high-quality woodland and prairie sites across southeastern Wisconsin. The talk highlights the importance of conserving and restoring early-season floral resources to sustain bumble bee populations. Dr. Karron is Professor of Biology emeritus at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. He is internationally known for his research on the ecology of plant-pollinator interactions\, bumble bee behavior\, and the conservation of endangered plants.
