It Would Be Good to Save a Little Land: The Story of Mequon Nature Preserve
Our area is blessed with a number of outstanding nature centers, starting with Riveredge, established in 1968. In 2000, the City of Mequon and the Ozaukee Washington Land Trust launched an effort to set aside for future generations almost a square mile of land in the heart of Metro Milwaukee. Since then, the Mequon Nature Preserve has grown to 444 acres with 5+ miles of trails, an observation tower and an education center that is a hub for community programs. Led by our presenter, Executive Director Kristin Gies, MNP provides hands-on science classes to thousands of Milwaukee area school children and has set out to restore the beech maple forest and wooded wetlands that existed on the property in the early 1800s.
Bird Club takes place virtually and is free to all to attend.
