Frequently asked questions
I found an injured animal. Can I bring it to you for help?
We are not a wildlife rehabilitation facility, and cannot assist you with injured or abandoned wildlife that you may have found, unless they are on the Riveredge property.
If the animal you found is currently at Riveredge, call us at the Visitor Center at 262-375-2715.
If you found the animal elsewhere, please contact Pine View Wildlife Rehabilitation Center at 262.692.9021 or your local Humane Society for assistance.
Note on abandoned fawns: If you find a baby deer that is not getting up and there is no mother deer to be seen, leave it be–it’s doing exactly what it’s supposed to be doing by remaining very still and hiding from predators. You may not see the mother, but she knows where her baby is and will likely reappear the moment you leave.
Note on abandoned ducklings: Mother ducks will usually adopt an orphaned duckling into their brood, so if you can safely relocate a lost duckling near another duck family, odds are it will join that brood!
May I bring my dog?
Riveredge Nature Center does not allow pets. Domesticated pets both on and off leash can be disruptive to native and migratory wildlife habitat, which we work hard to cultivate.
ADA-qualifying service animals are always welcome to assist their human partners at Riveredge. This does not include emotional support animals. Service animals must be on a leash, stay on the trails, and be under the control of their owner/handler at all times, except in the case that being off-leash is necessary to perform tasks.
How do I sign up for programs?
Visit our Event Calendar or Programs page. Click on a program or event that interests you. Scroll down through the program description and click on the register button If there is no register button, advance registration is not necessary.
Where does my program begin?
Read the program description carefully. Riveredge has several different educational buildings in different locations on the property. Each area has a driveway and drop off area. You may be asked to begin your program or drop off your child, at Connie’s Classroom, the River Outpost, Sugarbush House, Barn, or Visitor Center. If you need navigational help, just call us at 262-375-2715.
