Riveredge has a new all terrain wheelchair, an Action Trackchair®, available for visitors to use at no cost!
About the Riveredge Trackchair
The Trackchair is 100% free to use at Riveredge! With this all terrain wheelchair, users will be able to explore prairies, forests, wetlands, and the shoreline of the Milwaukee River! Non-members do need to pay a small trail fee like all non-member trail users. If this fee may inhibit your ability to visit, please let us know. You can also reserve this Trackchair to participate in a program, attend an event, or volunteer. Children under 18 must have a Riveredge Accessiblity Equipment Waiver signed by a parent or legal guardian ahead of time if their parent or guardian will not be with them when using the Trackchair. All children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult age 18 or older.
This Trackchair is a model ST. The seat is 18″ wide, 16″ deep, 23″ high, and has a weight capacity of 300 lbs. The footrest height is adjustable. The control joystick is on the right and tilt function is on the left. There are armrests, a seat belt, chest harness (optional), foot belt, headrest, side pockets, headlight, and rear utility rack attached. Optional accessories we can add include a 9” seat belt extension, attendant control for those who can’t operate it on their own or need left-side control, and a uni-mount that can be used for gear like backpacks and cameras.

*The Trackchair is able to be used during Riveredge business hours and may be reserved for either the morning or afternoon timeslot. Click on an available date in the calendar to see if a timeslot has already been reserved. Some dates may appear as booked, but may only be for a half day. Hover over a “booked” day to see notes about specific times. Reservations are not guaranteed until you receive a confirmation from Riveredge.
How To Reserve the Trackchair
1. APPLY
Complete the Application for the date(s) you want to use the Trackchair. We will contact you to confirm or adjust your request. The Riveredge Trackchair is reserved on a first come, first serve basis. Please apply at least 1 week in advance, or your chair use will be considered a walk-in. (We are always happy to assist walk-in guests, but cannot guarantee availability for walk-ins).
If you make a reservation and later realize you are not able to make it, please call the office as soon as possible at 262-375-2715 so that we can make the chair available for another user.
2. SIGN THE WAIVER
You will need to complete the Riveredge Accessiblity Equipment Waiver each day you use the Riveredge Trackchair.
Children under 18 must have a waiver signed by a parent or legal guardian ahead of time if their parent or guardian will not be with them when using the Trackchair. All children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult age 18 or older.
3. PAY A TRAIL FEE (Non-members)
All trail users are asked to either pay a small trail fee or become a member to enjoy the 485 acres Riveredge has to offer. Please pay your trail fee before you hit the trails. If this fee may inhibit your ability to visit, please contact Steff Merten at [email protected] or call the office at 262-375-2715.

4. EXPLORE
Riveredge has over 10 miles of trails through forests, prairies, wetlands, and more! Althrough we strive to be as accessible as possible, some of the trails have stairs, narrow boardwalks, steep slopes, or sesitive terrain. An accesibility map is in the works and will be posted when it’s ready. Until it’s finished, please use the current trail map and talk to Riveredge staff about where you can go and what you can see.
5. COMPLETE THE SURVEY
After you’re done exploring, head back to the visitor center and complete the Trackchair User Survey. It should only take about 5 minutes to complete. The information collected in this survey helps us continue to secure the funding to offer this equipment at no cost to our community. 6. SHARE YOUR PHOTOS
We want to see your adventures! Please submit photo(s) and/or video(s) of you (and your group) on the trails. We would love to share your photos on our website and social media to help promote the Riveredge Trackchair. Alternatively, you may email them to Amy Casey at [email protected].
Using the Trackchair
The Trackchair is 100% free to use! Riveredge staff will safely store your car keys and driver’s license in a lockbox during the chair’s use as temporary collateral, returned to you when you come back after your adventure. Non-members do need to pay a small trail fee like all non-member trail users. If this fee may inhibit your ability to attend, please let us know.

It is our intention to make the Trackchair easily accessible at zero cost to all who need it! However, please note that Riveredge reserves the right to limit any user who fails to follow the reservation process responsibly, interact kindly with staff and community at Riveredge, or use the chair safely.

Frequently Asked Questions
How can I request to reserve the Trackchair for multiple dates?
When you fill out the Riveredge All Terrain Trackchair User Application form, enter the first date you would like to use it in the date field. In the Additional Comments at the end, you can add any additional dates and times you would like to use the chair. Please only request dates you actually plan to use the chair (not “every Saturday”). If you’ve already submitted the form and need to add more dates, please fill out the form again. We will email you to let you know if we’re able to confirm all the dates you request or if we need to adjust any of them. You will need to complete the Riveredge Accessiblity Equipment Waiver each day you use the Trackchair.
Are Riveredge trails accessible for the Trackchair?

Are there accessible restrooms available?
The Riveredge visitor center has narrow accessible stalls with grab rails in both men’s and women’s restrooms available to use during business hours. To improve accessibility and inclusion, we are planning major visitor center renovations that will start in 2025. They will include an accessible individual restroom with plenty of turning space, grab rails, roll under sink, and adult size changing table. I have my own mobility aid, where can I store it while using the Trackchair?
Not to worry, Riveredge staff will store any of your personal equipment and belongings in the staff offices away from visitors.
I made a Trackchair reservation, but I can’t make it anymore. What do I need to do?
Life happens, we understand. If you need to change or cancel your Trackchair reservation for any reason, please call Riveredge as soon as possible at 262-375-2715. What other accessibility tools are available at Riveredge?
The Riveredge visitor center is accessible with a ramp and push buttons at the front entrance and narrow accessible restroom stall available during business hours. Sensory and adventure backpacks are avaialable for check-out at the front desk. We offer programs for disabled people and their caregivers.
