Polar Exploration Lecture with Eric Larsen: On Thin Ice
@ Ozaukee Pavilion at the County Fair Grounds in Cedarburg
Experience the life of modern day explorer and Cedarburg native Eric Larsen as he shares stories from 25 years of extreme expeditions – from the North and South Poles to the top of Mt. Everest and many places in between. Through stunning images and video learn about encounters with polar bears, extreme cold, thin ice, avalanches, and much more. Eric will share anecdotes from his many adventures across the globe (including Wisconsin) as well as an unsupported expedition to the North Pole that will most likely be the last of its kind in history due to climate change that was featured in a documentary on the Discovery Network and book On Thin Ice. The presentation uses bigger themes of teamwork, risk, uncertainty and more to highlight what we all can do to overcome big challenges while expanding environmental awareness into the future. He will also talk about his recent battle with stage 3b colorectal cancer and the pivotal role that southeastern Wisconsin and Riveredge Nature Center played in his life.
Eric has dedicated his adult life to sharing his love for the outdoor world with others. As an educator, he strives to connect people to places and issues. Originally from Cedarburg, Wisconsin, Eric now lives in Crested Butte, Colorado with his wife Maria and two young children Merritt (10) and Ellie (7). Eric’s father, Andy Larsen, was Riveredge’s first naturalist and founding environmental educator.
All proceeds from this event will benefit Riveredge Nature Center.
