Family Fishing Fun

Bring your family to Riveredge Nature Center and spend some time by the pond learning to fish with the experts! Led by Riveredge Educators and our own professional Angler Matt Smith, you’ll learn about Wisconsin rules and regulations, safety skills, identification of common fish species, gear, knots, and of course, how to cast the perfect line. All fish will be catch and release and all equipment will be provided or feel free to bring your own if you prefer.

All ages are welcome! Children must be accompanied by an adult 18+.
Children under 16 do not need a fishing license to participate.
This program is free to attend, but donations are greatly appreciated!
Pre-registration is required by August 21 at 11:59 pm.

Hook-ology: Knot The Best

The best place to start is understanding line and knots. Work with experienced anglers to become familiar with essential knots and when to use them. We will start with large rope, work our way towards fishing lines of various types and discuss their application.

Ages 8+ | For kids and adults!

Family Nature Club: Fishing Fun at Ridge Run!

Family Nature Club Fishing Fun at Ridge Run!

Spend the afternoon on the banks of Wells Lake in Ridge Run Park with a pole in your hand and hopefully a few bites on your line! Learn how to tie on a hook, bait your hook, and safely cast your line into the water. We will try to catch and identify each fish before releasing them back into their home.

We’ll bring some poles and bait for folks to use – or bring your own. 🙂 Fishing license required for adults. Baits and poles will be provided on a first come, first serve basis. Children must be accompanied by an adult. This space is stroller friendly!

Family Nature Club is a free offering to our community designed for kids, teens, and their families. We facilitate outdoor, environmental-education based experiences for families to enjoy together.

Park at Ridge Run Park Central entrance in West Bend (address below) and meet at the Lakeside Shelter.

All ages are welcome!

Drop in to drop a line! Learn a time-honored Wisconsin winter pastime- ice fishing! With the guidance of Jeff Kierzek, Riveredge’s Education Director, you will learn the gear you need, how to safely judge the ice, practice drilling holes, setting tip ups, and dropping a line. You will even make your own fishing pole!

Recommended for ages 7 & up. Younger siblings are welcome to join too!
