Plant Medicine Walk

Erica Bhatti, member of the Lac du Flambeau Ojibwe, will lead a plant medicine walk following her beading class. Join for one or both! We will experience the healing qualities of spending time with and getting to know our non-human (most often green) kin.

The walk will be about a mile and a half on boardwalks, gravel trails, and earthen trails, rain or shine!

This event is free to attend, but donations are greatly appreciated!

All ages welcome! Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Traditional Anishinaabe Beading Workshop 102: Two Needle Applique

August 5 @ 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm

Traditional Anishinaabe Beading Workshop 102: Two Needle Applique

Learn traditional Anishinaabe beadwork techniques with Erica Bhatti, member of the Lac du Flambeau Ojibwe. She will instruct the two-needle applique technique. Participants will create earrings or pins. Sip on traditional cedar tea (high in antioxidants and vitamin C) while learning about the cultural importance of Indigenous crafts and regalia and practicing a new skill. Materials will be provided.

Erica is a self-taught beadworker, practicing with her brother to revitalize a long-standing tradition endangered by the Boarding School era. While completing her B.S. in Neuroscience at the University of Chicago and modeling around the country and walking runway for Indigenous designers, Erica has been the President of the Native American and Indigenous Student Organization, organizing community building and educational events, planning pow wows, and advising university leadership. She works in Chicago as a reading therapist. Erica grew up in West Bend, and spent summers on the Lac du Flambeau reservation.
