Growing Green Farm Tours:
Grounded LLC
Grounded LLC (address below) strives to balance ecological integrity with agricultural resilience by integrating ancient and regenerative farming methods in harmony with natural wild lands. Owned and operated by Angela Curtes, Grounded’s operations are based in the heartland of the Midwest in Southeast Wisconsin on her family’s 80-acre farm. The land is nestled in the rolling glaciated hills of the Mid-Kettle Moraine region within the beautiful headwaters valley of Cedar Creek that flows to the Great Lakes. Historically, the farm was a small dairy using organic practices, then a conventional crop farm that Grounded has transitioned to mixed hay of flowering legumes and grasses grown using organic and biodynamic practices.
Grounded continues forward 30 years of land stewardship and management by the Curtes Family of its natural areas, including forests, pollinator prairies, and hedgerow buffers, all contributing to the diversification of the lands ecology and natural habitats. A heat-controlled biodynamic compost system lies at the heart of the farm. Grounded-born medicinal crops for animal and human well-being include: Alfalfa-Grass Hay, Echinacea purpurea (Purple Cone Flower), Calendula, and cannabidiol (CBD)-rich Industrial Cannabis Sativa Hemp.
What to expect: A family friendly 1/2 mile hike meandering through field and forest talking about the land and projects underway at Grounded.

The Soil Underfoot
with Mary Ann Ihm
Besides being a non-profit education center, Wellspring has been an organic farm for 35 seasons. Mary Ann Ihm, the founder of this 40-year-old organization, has had her fingers in the soil for over 45 years. Sometimes called “the Compost Queen”, she loves to help people learn how to build and enhance the soil. To her, soil is a living community with nutrients that nourish growing plants. Wellspring is a neighbor of Riveredge, just across the river to the north and has partnered with us in the Growing Green program this year.
Enjoy lunch or a snack while you learn on Zoom.
