Winter Solstice Celebration
Adventure and Exploration Day at Riveredge
Celebrate the Winter Solstice at Riveredge! Awaken your curiosity, engage your body, and explore the beautifully restored Riveredge landscape through self-guided and educator-led activities. Winter Solstice Celebration: Adventure and Exploration Day at Riveredge is designed for folks of all ages to get active outdoors and discover a variety of ways to enjoy nature. Adventure awaits!
– Guided Hikes 11am, 1pm, 3pm | 1 hour long
– Crafting in the Coop 2-6pm | Bring a recycled, clean glass jar to make a luminary! Extra will be available. We will also be making bird feeders and coloring mindfulness mandalas.
– Bonfire 4:30-8pm | S’mores and healthy snacks will be provided
– Winter Solstice Yoga 5-6pm | Register separately here – $15 for non-members, $10 for members
– Night Hikes 5-6pm, 6:15-7pm | Please do not use a flashlight or headlamp. Instead, we will let our eyes adjust to the darkness.
Free for all participants (except yoga). Pre-register by December 20 at 11:55 pm or register at the program if spots are available. Pre-registration required for yoga by December 20 at 11:55 pm.

Tree Climbing
Explore Riveredge at a new elevation! Our Tree Climbing programs are meant for youth and adults, age 7 and above, with little to no tree climbing skills. Ascend ropes and explore the world way above your feet. We make it safe and easy! All equipment is supplied; all you need is loose clothing (T-shirt and long pants recommended), closed toe shoes (hard soles recommended), and an adventurous spirit. The tree climbing programs often fill quickly. Our Tree Climbing programs are meant for youth and adults, age 7 and above, with little to no tree climbing skills. Ascend ropes and explore the world way above your feet. We make it safe and easy!
Ages 7+ | Children must be registered with an adult.

Tubing the Milwaukee River
After a quick tour of the Sturgeon Streamside Rearing Facility, we’ll hop on inner tubes and float down the Milwaukee River. Along the way, we’ll discover the diversity of living things that make their home in the river. Wear sturdy shoes and clothing that can get wet. Bring a lifejacket and an inner tube if you would like. Participants should be able to hike approximately 1 mile.
Ages 7+ | Children must be registered with an adult.

Join a naturalist and step into the Milwaukee River! We’ll explore this wonderful, watery world and seek out the creatures that call the river home. Bring your favorite wading shoes (old sneakers work best), a towel and a change of clothes. Expect to get wet! Feel free to pack a snack and stay for a picnic after the program.
