Summer: A Solstice Story Reading and Story Walk
with Author Kelsey Gross
Celebrate the wonder of summer and storytelling with Kelsey Gross, author of Summer: A Solstice Story. The long summer days are here, and in the peace and stillness of the morning, the forest seems quiet and asleep. But there is always life everywhere if you know where—and when—to look. Solstice is here! On the longest day of the year, friends Squirrel, Raccoon, Bear, Sparrow, Rabbit, Woodpecker, and Deer gather to share the gifts of new light and life that summer brings.
From 4-4:45pm, we will gather, mingle, and play. An Environmental Educator will lead a learning activity. At 4:45, Kelsey will read Summer. A self-guided story walk ends this program along a stroller accessible, prairie and edge habitat trail to soak in the wonder of summer! Join for all or part of this program.
Learn more about Summer: A Solstice Story and author Kelsey Gross below.
All ages welcome. Children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult 18+.
This program is free to attend, but donations are greatly appreciated!

About Kelsey Gross
I started writing poems and stories in first grade and dreamed of becoming an author. Many years and career paths later, I’m delighted to return to my original plan!
Picture books are powerful. The combination of illustrations and words create emotional experiences that help kids dream big, connect with their caregivers, wrestle with difficult questions, and learn to care for one another and our world. I’m honored to be part of these vitally important moments in children’s lives. One of my favorite things is talking with young readers. They continually inspire me to stay curious, laugh often, and see the world in new ways.

Milwaukee River Kayak Tour in West Bend
Enjoy a 4 mile paddle down the Milwaukee River in West Bend! This paddle begins with views of downtown West Bend as you navigate the fun, meandering river and ends with calm flatwater as you paddle through peaceful parks. If water levels are high enough, we’ll begin the trip with scenic views of downtown West Best. If not, we’ll put in south of Downtown and enjoy the more peaceful section of the trip! Recommended for beginners with some experience or those with a sense of adventure. We’ll provide kayaks, paddles, life jackets, and instruction. Don’t forget your sunscreen, hat, water, and enthusiasm. We will use single person kayaks.
Water levels on the Milwaukee River can be very unpredictable. We will be monitoring them closely ahead of the event. There is a possibility we may have to walk our boats through the river in some sections or change launching locations due to low water levels. Further information and meeting location will be provided by email ahead of the paddle.
Ages 10+ | Children must be accompanied by an adult
