Restoring Your Woodland Class 4: The Long Haul- Monitoring & Adaptive Stewardship
The most important lesson for a landowner is this: restoration is a process, not a one-time event. This final, capstone workshop is designed to shift your mindset from a “project manager” to a long-term “woodland steward.” We’ll focus on creating a simple monitoring calendar so you know what to look for in every season, from spring garlic mustard rosettes to fall re-sprouts. We’ll also discuss “adaptive management”—how to adjust your plan when you face new challenges. The session will culminate in a guided activity where you’ll draft a simple, one-page, 5-Year Action Plan for your property. You’ll leave with a clear roadmap and the confidence to keep your woodland healthy for years to come.

Restoring Your Woodland Class 3: Healing the Forest – Restoration with Native Replacements
Removing invasives is only half the battle. Nature abhors a vacuum, and if you leave bare soil, the weeds will simply return. This class is about “healing the forest” by actively restoring a healthy, resilient native plant community. Learn how to prepare your site after removal and discover the best native shrubs, wildflowers, and trees to plant in their place, all specifically chosen for our region. Crucially, we’ll also create a realistic plan for dealing with high deer pressure in our counties—because without protection, your new plantings won’t survive. You’ll leave with a “shopping list” of native replacements and a strategy to ensure they thrive.
