Cooped Up Naturalist: Drop-In Naturalist Session

SOS! A Riveredge Naturalist has been cooped up in the Coop near Farm Pond and is looking for some curious folks to listen to all they’ve learned about the landscape around them. Explore seasonal nature objects (pelts, bones, stones, dried plants, seeds, or branches), check out an ID book for your hike, and bring your questions.

All ages are welcome! Children must be accompanied by and adult 18+.

This program is free to attend, but donations are greatly appreciated!

Visitor Center Renovations Virtual Listening Session

Help us revitalize and expand our 34-year old Visitor Center, a pivotal gateway to the 485-acre Riveredge sanctuary! The Visitor Center is integral to our education, conservation, and research initiatives. The building, however, has remained largely unchanged since its construction in 1990. Our Growing Legacy Campaign seeks support from our community to fully realize the potential of this remarkable building.

Planned renovations include these features and more:
– a more visible entrance with ADA accessible entry
– fully accessible restrooms
– an extension of the back deck
– an ADA lift between levels
– a modern community gathering space
– a wet lab classroom on the building’s pond level

Trail improvements are another key part of the campaign’s goals, making navigating the trail system easier, clearer, and more accessible. With your support, we’ll address critical needs, ushering a new era of accessibility, sustainability, and community engagement. We invite you to learn more about this exciting new era for our organization.

We enthusiastically welcome you to attend any of our scheduled listening sessions to hear more about these exciting plans for the future. Hip Hip Hooray- Family Nature Club is back in session! Join other families to start the school year off with a Family Nature Club celebration. We will catch up with each other, catch crayfish, play games, enjoy a potluck dinner together and end the day with s’mores (our treat!) 🍉

Family Nature Club is a free offering to our community designed for kids, teens, and their families. We facilitate outdoor, environmental-education based experiences for families to enjoy together.

Experience the beauty of the Milwaukee River with a serene paddle! Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced paddler, join our scenic journey down the river. No previous experience? No worries! We’ll provide single-person kayaks, ensuring a comfortable and enjoyable adventure for all participants. Ages 10+

Park and meet at Waubedonia Park in Fredonia (address below).

*** If water levels on the Milwaukee River are too low, we will be paddling at Veterans Memorial Park in Grafton instead. This section of the river, located above the dam, has higher water levels that will allow us to navigate the river comfortably. We will reach out to registrants via email if the location is changed.

FREE for Residents of CRP Communities (Grafton, Saukville, Newburg, Kewaskum, Fredonia)!

Diving into the Blues: Local Music History and the Delta Blues Workshop & Presentation

Diving into the Blues: Local Music History and the Delta Blues Workshop & Presentation

Join local guitarist Luke Cerny for an interactive demonstration and practical workshop focused on demonstrating and teaching many of the approaches, techniques, and tools present in early American acoustic guitar styles as well as the artists who championed them – with a special focus on local music history and the Delta Blues, digging into the catalogues of artists such as Charley Patton, Skip James, Son House, and more.

If you play guitar (or are thinking about learning), please feel free to bring an acoustic guitar, capo, and tuner. Bring a slide as well, if you have one. If not, a selection of different sizes, shapes, and materials will be available to try out. Additional accessories to consider bringing are: plectrum (flatpick), thumbpick, and finger picks, but are not totally necessary if you don’t normally use them. You may want to bring a notebook and pen. If you don’t play guitar but are just a fan of the Blues, feel free to join us in actively appreciating some of the guitar styles and approaches that came out of the Mississippi Delta and surrounding regions in the early 20th century.

Who is this program for? Beginner to advanced guitar players and non-players curious about music history. Ages 14+ (teens under 18 must be accompanied by an adult)

Kayak & Cookout

Explore Mauthe Lake and the Eastern Branch of the Milwaukee River by kayak! After your kayak exploration, enjoy a delicious camp dinner and dessert with friends, family, and community! Food, kayaks, life jackets, paddles, and instruction will be provided. No kayaking experience necessary!

Meet at Mauthe Lake Recreation Area (address below). State Park pass is required and not included in the fee.
